Inconsiderate Climbers
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
Inconsiderate Climbers is a local multiplayer experiment in non-zero-sum design space.
Designed for and first exhibited at the 8th annual No Quarter Exhibition, this is a game made to be played in a living public space, with players dropping in and out independent of one another. You're not allies or enemies, but individuals with conflicting goals. How do you navigate sharing a space with selfish strangers?

To play the game, you should use 4 controllers. Not sure how good my controller support is, but it should be pretty decent. Keyboard controls also work in a pinch (see bottom for detailed controls).
The basic instructions that any player needs are as follows:
1. Join the game by holding 'right' on your controller.
2. Your goal is to use your climber's indicated machine 10 times by holding your action button.
3. If you run out of hearts, pass your controller to a new player.

Not sure if I will do any further development on the game. As a social experience it works, but it's a bit unpolished! If I find the time, I may fix up the fullscreen warping glitch (if the game is warped, just take it out / put it back into fullscreen), add music/sound, maybe change the interface to be more friendly. At present it's a good idea to write up some physical instructions -- I notice people pay better attention to handwritten signs than to computer instructions anyway.

Controls
If you plug in 4 controllers, they should auto-detect. Left stick / D-Pad / etc will move you around, and every other button will perform a contextual "action."
If you can't get those to work, these are the keyboard controls:

rs (originally Different Towers) was designed for & thanks to the 8th annual No Quarter Exhibition.
Any number of players can participate, but it is at its best with more than four players/observers, with individuals cycling out as they are eliminated or "die".
how to play
To join the game, hold 'right' on your controller.
Each player's goal is to use their climber's indicated machine 10 times. To use a machine, hold your non-movement button (E/Y/O/SHIFT)
Should auto-detect 4 controllers, although keyboard controls also exist:
- WASD / E
- TFGH / Y
- IJKL / O
- ARROWS / R.SHIFT
If exhibiting in a public space, I strongly recommend you use controllers and put up a clearly visible sign that says "When you lose all your hearts, please pass your controller to a new player."
